The panel discussion consisting of senior people in TV Journalism was held on Tuesday 3rd September in the House of Commons. Nigel Adams MP, a Minister with the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport was supposed to be on the panel to respond to the findings, however, we understand he had to cancel last minute due to emergency Brexit duties. We will use this year’s announcement as a starting point for next year with which corporations will just need to fill out the company spokespeople of companies that they own that operate in the UK only. Thanks to everyone who attended, some people traveled 250 miles to be there. Thank you to those who filled in the survey. Our work is not done and we will partner with organisations now. Let us know if you’d like to get involved. The Broadcast Club is run and sponsored by the Broadcasters’ Academy. Our case study for the night was successful finance expert Michelle McGrade. Michelle informed the audience that TD Direct Investing’s Assets Under Administration went from £200 million to over £1 billion in 9 months as a result of hiring Kerry Hopkins. Kerry created a broadcast strategy for them that aligned with their marketing and PR strategies. The broadcast strategy included getting their company spokespeople, which was predominantly Michelle herself, on TV and radio on a consistent basis which amounted to over 100 TV and radio interviews. Interview times for Michelle varied between 15 seconds right up to 45 minute TV slots. So if you wonder if investing in female and male staff as broadcast spokespeople is worth it? Well, there is some bottom-line proof that it is! As I established SJL Insurance 18 years ago with a Worcestershire council grant of £250 plus a grant from the Hereford & Worcester Chambers of Commerce for £250. The £500 helped me buy a desk and computer. So I wanted the story to go full circle and help others do the same.” 100% of donations go to charity. The SJL Foundation aims to raise £100,000 in its first year of which the remaining 45% of that is going to Acorns Children’s Hospices, and 10% will go to a charity match fund pot for staff.
